Subjunctive Mood হলো এমন এক বিশেষ ব্যাকরণিক গঠন যা কোনো অনুরোধ, আদেশ, পরামর্শ, দাবি, প্রস্তাব বা জরুরি প্রয়োজন বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়। বিসিএস এবং বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ভর্তি পরীক্ষায় (বিশেষ করে ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয় ও জিএসটি) এখান থেকে প্রায়ই প্রশ্ন আসে।

⚡ ১. Subjunctive-এর প্রধান নিয়ম (Golden Rule)

বাক্যে যখন কোনো Subjunctive Verb বা Adjective থাকে এবং তার পর 'that' সেকশন যুক্ত হয়, তখন That-এর পরবর্তী Clause-এ Subject যাই হোক না কেন (১ম, ২য় বা ৩য় পার্সন), Verb-এর সর্বদা Base Form (V1) বসে।

• কোনো s / es যোগ করা যাবে না! ❌ (He goes ➔ ✅ He go)
• কোনো Past tense করা যাবে না! ❌ (He went ➔ ✅ He go)
• কোনো Modal (should/would) বসবে না! ❌
• Be Verb হিসেবে কেবল 'be' বসবে! (am/is/are/was/were বসবে না) ❌ (He is ➔ ✅ He be)

⚡ ২. যেসব Verbs থাকলে Subjunctive হয়

নিচের Subjunctive Verbs-এর পর that থাকলে পরবর্তী Verb-টি Base Form হয়:

• Advise (পরামর্শ দেওয়া)
• Ask (অনুরোধ/দাবি করা)
• Command / Order (আদেশ দেওয়া)
• Demand (দাবি করা)
• Insist (জেদ করা)
• Move (প্রস্তাব করা)
• Prefer (পছন্দ করা)
• Propose (প্রস্তাব দেওয়া)
• Recommend (সুপারিশ করা)
• Request (অনুরোধ করা)
• Require (প্রয়োজন হওয়া)
• Suggest (পরামর্শ দেওয়া)
• Urge (অনুরোধ করা)

উদাহরণসমূহ:

• The doctor recommended that he take (takes নয়) rest.
• The manager required that everyone be (is/was নয়) present in the meeting.
• I suggested that she study (studies/studied নয়) medicine.

⚡ ৩. যেসব Adjectives থাকলে Subjunctive হয়

It is + Adjective + that + Subject + Base Verb (V1)

• Important (গুরুত্বপূর্ণ)
• Essential (জরুরি)
• Vital (অত্যন্ত জরুরি)
• Necessary (প্রয়োজনীয়)
• Imperative (আবশ্যক)
• Urgent (জরুরি)
• Crucial (গুরুত্বপূর্ণ)

উদাহরণসমূহ:

• It is essential that he submit (submits নয়) the report today.
• It is vital that the patient receive (receives/received নয়) immediate care.

🚫 Subjunctive-এর না-বোধক (Negative) ও প্যাসিভ (Passive) রূপ

১. Negative Subjunctive (Not + Base Verb):

Subjunctive বাক্যে না-বোধক করতে do not / does not / did not বসানো নিষেধ! কেবল Verb-এর পূর্বে 'not' বসিয়ে দিলেই হবে।

• Correct: The teacher insisted that the student not bring cell phones into the exam hall.
• Incorrect: The teacher insisted that the student does not bring... ❌

২. Passive Subjunctive (be + V3):

• Correct: The doctor recommended that the medicine be taken twice a day.
• Incorrect: The doctor recommended that the medicine is taken... ❌

❌ ভুল: The professor recommended that Rahim attends the class.
✅ সঠিক: The professor recommended that Rahim attend the class. (Subjunctive-এ s/es যুক্ত হয় না)
